EDUCATION CONTINUES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Education Continues Beyond the Classroom

What is the difference between Continuing Education and Continuous Learning

In the context of ‘mainstream’ Bowen, Continuing Education is 32 hours approved ‘classroom’ education every two years, (the equivalent of 20 minutes a week), half of which is ‘rehashing’ previously learned technique.  The other half is still strictly Bowen technique, although across a range of more specialized topics.  This method, involving 2-3 training courses every two years, is inherently self limiting.  There is a sense of marking time between classroom trainings - standing still with the knowledge you have.

It should be noted not all schools have a Continuing Education requirement.  Mine is one such program  because I foster the paradigm shift of Continuous Learning - learning something from every client - learning something new every day and using available tools to expand the knowledge base.

Continuous Learning is having an expansive, growing, ‘curated’ knowledge resource available ANYWHERE, ANYTIME on ANY DEVICE - and making a point of using it.  Easily searchable, pertinent  knowledge, at your fingertips, will facilitate learning more easily and deeply across a broader topic field.  Expanding your knowledge base will make you a more effective practitioner, better able to competently address your clients evolving needs.

Continuous Learning is the foundation for Professional Growth which in turn builds confidence in your practical ability and client outcomes - your therapeutic results will improve.

The Importance of Continuous Learning

Why are you a Bowen practitioner?  Why do you do this work?

We each have our own motivations for doing this work, but somewhere in there must be the notion of helping people improve their daily quality of life.  For that we need to always be ‘on our game’.

In the world of manual therapy, education needs to extend beyond the confines of a traditional ‘hands-on’ classroom setting.  While technique-centric training is essential for building a strong foundation, it is only one piece of a much more complex puzzle - the ‘human condition’.

To truly excel as a Bowen practitioner and provide the best possible care for clients, practitioners must embrace a lifelong commitment to learning and professional growth and the vast majority of that needs to be undertaken outside the classroom environment.  I've found dedicating time each day to learning has been transformative.  I have been able to successfully address a wider range of health conditions, more than 250, which has helped me to improve daily quality of life for many more people - which in turn has even more people seeking me out.
